An American in Paris by George Gershwin
Performed by London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by André Previn
I got asked to go to prom during school orchestra rehearsal yesterday. It basically went down like this:
We have a senior concerto concert coming up next week and we were having normal rehearsal and Mr. Enz was looking at the sheet music of one of the soloists for a second, then suddenly asked me to come with him to the music office to make copies. Wait, what? Once we were out of the orchestra room, I told him I already knew how to make copies because I had to do it before, but he insisted that he had to make sure that I was good at it. He kept saying things like, “Oh, make sure you hit that button. No, I don’t like this setting. No, make this darker.” I wasn’t suspicious at all. I mean, he can be quite bizarre at times so I didn’t make anything out of it.
He finally walked me back to the orchestra room and I saw Kevin at the podium. I figured that he was fooling around and trying to lead the orchestra while Mr. Enz stepped out. I just walked straight to my seat expecting to hear our normal music, but once I heard the Romeo and Juliet Overture Love Theme I started freaking out. Of course, it’s a famous love theme, but Kevin and I played it together in a different orchestra a few years ago. Once the music faded, he asked, I said yes, Mr. Enz said, “Is it alright to bring these out now?” and gave Kevin red/pink carnations, who then passed it on to me. I sort of sat there dumbly. We’re dating and all, but the whole promposal and putting together what the hell just happened in my head got me excited and happy and so out of it that I couldn’t say or do anything. After saying “awk” and sparking some more laughter, I put the bouquet and my violin down on my chair and got up to give him a big hug.
Also, we had sectionals right before all of this. Not only was this for preparing for next week’s concert, it gave them time to hand out the arranged Romeo and Juliet music. I think it went pretty well for sight-reading LOL.

When I think of movie music this is the first movie I think of. I love it, especially this recording with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

I posted this video before but I think it’s worth posting it again since I found the version that doesn’t divide it into ten sections.
